About Us
RUNNING HORSE® is an offspring of Consumers Supply Distributing, LLC, which has been in business for 65 years. Consumers Supply is known for its feed ingredient distribution business from which grew its manufacturing segment 15 years ago. After a successful beginning in the animal pet food business, Consumers Supply moved onto the first extruded horse feed plant in the industry. RUNNING HORSE® was established to provide cutting-edge nutrition for horses. The extrusion process has been proven and tested to be a superior feed for your horse.
RUNNING HORSE® is made in a safe-feed, safe-food facility. We undergo regular safety checks to ensure that our feed is consistent from beginning to end. RUNNING HORSE® is also made in an ionophore-free facility. This means NO medications are used in our feed facilities. You can rest assured knowing that RUNNING HORSE® is not made in a facility that also manufactures medicated cattle feed, containing these products that can be fatal to horses. We understand the value of your horse, and the risks involved in handling these types of projects- that’s why we don’t allow ionophores in our facilities. Horse feed is our business.
Extrusion
Technology
RUNNING HORSE® uses Extrusion Technology. Extrusion is different than pelleting. Pelleting is a compression technology, in which raw grains are forced through a die to make hard pellets. These hard pellets are hard for a horse to digest and break down. Extrusion is an expansion technology, in which grains are cooked under pressure, using steam and hot water to help break the bond between carbohydrates. The extrusion process actually changes the nutritional properties of these ingredients, making them much more digestible. The feed comes out of the extruder, and it expands, similar to popcorn, producing a light, fluffy, highly palatable, and highly digestible feed for your horse.
The extrusion process enhances digestibility which may:

Fixed-Formula
RUNNING HORSE® is made with a fixed-formula. Many of our competitors use a “least-cost” formula. Least-cost formulas mean they can substitute ingredients for cheaper ingredients as the markets change. With our fixed-formula, as ingredient prices change, our formula stays the same. This makes for an extremely consistent feed.
